In brain science research, we attempt to elucidate the relationship between the human brain and mind using functional brain imaging devices. By combining with pedagogy and cognitive psychology, we will develop a new and practical teaching and learning system to facilitate sound development of children and their growth and to improve their appetite for learning, ability to think logically, creativity, intellectual curiosity, and spirit of inquiry.

We are also looking forward to collaborating with educators.

If you wish to adimission to post graduate school, you have to apply to the department of advanced brain science. After your entrance, you will be assigned to this devision.

Comment from Prof. Kawashima

In this April, Professor Sugiura directs a new department, so that our new department has resized and restarted. Indeed, I believe it is an extremely good opportunity to accelerate outstanding researches, since our laboratory become plenty good size. Although, we are proud of ourselves that the cognitive brain science researches, which investigate neural correlates related to human higher cognitive functions using fMRI, the brain plasticity researches, which investigate changes of brain structures and cognitive functions using structural MRI and animal MRI, and the cognitive development researches, which investigate brain and cognitive development for healthy children as well as for children with developmental disorder, have been progressing satisfactorily. In our brain plasticity and cognitive development researches, we have been using analysis on polymorphism, e.g. BDNF, and proteomics. We also are proud that wide range of researches, from basic molecular to social sciences, has been doing within one laboratory. We hope many students and young researchers will join our team to expand our neuroscience researches.
